Joulukortteja / Christmas Cards

Viikonloppu meni samoissa puuhissa monen muun suomalaisen kanssa eli joulukortteja väkertäessä. Jotenkin tänä vuonna en oikein keksinyt, että millaisia kortteja olisin tehnyt, joten koko homma jäi todellakin viime tinkaan. Yleensä minulla on sentään idea keksittynä ja tarvikkeet hommattuna hieman aiemmin - nyt kaikki jäi lauantaille. Tästä johtuen ei sit ollut mahdollista tehdä edes kovin kummoisia kortteja, koska aika ois loppunut kesken.

Normaalisti teen täysin identtisiä kortteja kaikille, mutta askarteluliikkeessä ei ollut riittävästi samanlaisia 3D-kuvia, eikä myöskään samanlaisia tarroja, joten tänä vuonna idea ja sommittelu on kaikissa korteissa sama, mutta sisältö hieman eri.

Kuvat ovat varsin heikkolaatuisia, kun nappasin ne aamusella ennenkuin lähdin kiikuttamaan niitä postiin ja koska kyseessä on CD-kortit, niin CD:eissä näkyy mukavasti heijastumana minun käteni, kamerani ja osa mun aamutakistakin. :)

I think there were quite a many Finns who were buying/making Christmas cards during last weekend, since this Monday is the last day for sending those. Or not actually the last day, but after today you have to pay normal fee instead of special Christmas card payment. This was a special case for me, since usually I know what kind of cards I will make a bit earlier. This year I got the idea on Saturday when I was buying the material for the cards. Since I had to make all these cards during this weekend I had to make quite simple ones.

Usually I make similar cards for each, but this time I had to buy different kind of 3D-pictures, since the shop did not have enough same kind of angels or dogs or… So, this year I have same kind of cards, but not exactly the same.

The quality of the pictures is quite poor, since I took those early in the morning just before posting them. Since those cards contain used CDs you can see my hands, my camera and part of my bathrobe. :)

Winter Mystery Shawl 08 / Clue 1

No, nyt on 4 vihjettä julkaistu ja uskaltauduin alkamaan tämän. Minulla on lanka, joka alunperin oli tarkoitettu Mystery Shawl #9 huiviin, mutta jotenkin en pitänyt kyseisestä huivista ja purin tekemäni alun. No, minusta tuo lanka sopisi erittäin hyvin tähän, mutta ongelma on se, että minulla on sitä vain 1100 jaardia, kun Renee ilmoitti, että tähän tarvittaisiin 1200. No, yleensä Renee ilmoittaa langan määrät yläkanttiin, mutta sitäkin on tapahtunut, että lanka on ollut aika tiukoilla ja kerran yhtä mysteeriä muutettiin lennosta, jotta suosituslanka ois riittänyt.

Tästä johtuen sit päätin katsella, että minkälainen tuosta huivista tulee, jotta tiedän, haluanko edes ottaa riskiä. Samoin halusin varmistaa, että tämä suorakaiteen mallinen huivi on todellakin symmetrinen yms. eli voin sit tehdessäni punnita, että paljonko lankaa on mennyt ja sit puolessa välissä huivia voin tsekata riittääkö lanka vai joudunko purkamaan koko siihen asti tekemäni työn. Niin, tarvinneeko mainita, että tuota lankaa ei saa lisää. Renee

Okay, Renee has now published 4 Clues of Winter Mystery Shawl 08 and I decided to start it now. I have yarn which was originally intended for Mystery Shawl #9, but for some reason I did not like the pattern and frogged the shawl almost in the beginning. I feel this yarn would suit perfectly for this Winter Mystery, but the problem is I have only 1100 yds when Renee said this needs 1200 yds. I have noticed Renee’s estimations are a bit generous, but there have been situations where we have used all the yarn and once the pattern was changed a bit since the recommended yarn was not enough.

Due to this yarn problem I wanted to wait and see whether I like the pattern and whether I want to take the risk. In addition to that I wanted to be sure this rectangular is really symmetrical etc. Then it is possible for me to follow-up how much yarn I have used for each clue and in the middle of shawl I can just count whether I have enough yarn to finish the shawl or whether I have to frog the whole thing I have made so far. I assume, it is clear for you it is not possible to get more of that yarn… :)

Mystery Shawl #10 name published

Renee Leverington eli Goddess Knits julkaisi tänään Mystery Shawl #10 nimen - siitä tuli Persephone. Kyseessä on kreikkalaisen mytologian mukainen kaunis jumalatar, joka joutuu joka vuosi palaamaan kuudeksi kuukaudeksi manalaan Haadeen vaimoksi. Tästä johtuen maa "kuolee" surusta ja siksi meillä on vuodenajat. Persephone on siis kuolleiden valtakunnan valtiatar.

Renee Leverington a.k.a Goddess Knits published the name of Mystery Shawl #10, it is Persephone. According to Greek mythology she is a beautiful Goddess who has to return to underworld for six months each year. Due to that earth "dies"; that is the reason why we have seasons. So, she is the Queen of the Underworld.

Päivitin kaikki MS #10 liittyvät postit siten, että poistin mysteerivaroitukset ja vaihdoin kuvat isommiksi. Lisäksi laitoin sen valmistuneen huivin kuvan yhteyteen tämän saman tarinan koskien nimeä. Se postaus on nyt nimeltään Persephone.

I updated all the messages related to MS #10; I just removed all the spoiler alerts and changed the pictures to bigger ones. In addition to that I added the story of the name to the post related to finished shawl. That post is is now headed as Persephone.

Illusion Candy Cane Dishcloth

Tein sit heti perään toisenkin tiskirätin, joka on samalla ensimmäinen illuusioneuletyöni. Ikävä kyllä sen illuusion valokuvaaminen ei olekaan ihan helppo juttu. Paljaalla silmällä se piilotettu kuva näkyy varsin selkeästi, mutta en sit niin millään saanut kameralla sitä kuvaa sopivaan kulmaan.

On siis taasen niitä Monthly Dishcloth KAL liinoja, nyt kyseessä marraskuun puoliväli. Tämän on suunnitellut Shelly Hattan ja malli on nimeltään Illusion Candy Cane.

I made another discloth and this is the first illusion I have ever made. Unfortunately it is not so easy to photograph that hidden picture though it is really easy to see in real life. I just was not able to have correct angle when taking the picture.

Autumn’s Country Quilt

Nyt, kun sain tuon Halloween Mysteryn valmiiksi, niin jotenkin tuntui siltä, että voisi välillä pyöräyttää parit tiskirätit ennenkuin aloitan seuraavaa huivia. Niin, siellä ois Winter Mystery Shawl -08 jonossa. :)

Tämä helmineuleinen liina on Sue Schaeferin suunnittelema ja nimeltään tosiaan tuo Autumn's Country Quilt. Ihan mukavan rentouttavaa taas tehdä jotain joutuisaa paksuilla puikoilla. Tai niinno, kaikki eivät välttämättä pidä nelosen puikkoja mitenkään erityisen paksuina. Niin, tämä on marraskuun puolen välin tiskirättimalli tuolla Monthly Dishcloth KAL -ryhmässä.

After finishing the Halloween Mystery I thought it would be nice to knit couple of dishcloths before starting the next shawl; there is Winter Mystery Shawl -08 already in my queue. It has actually started already; Renee published the Clue 2 on Saturday.

Sue Schaefer has designed this dishcloth, which is called Autumn’s Country Quilt. It was really relaxing to knit something small and quick using big needles. I guess someone might think the size 4.0 mm (US 6) is not BIG, but… :) This is the Mid-November Dishcloth of Monthly Dishcloth KAL.

Halloween Mystery 2008

Nonni, vihdoin sain tämän valmiiksi. En tiedä, jotenkin on ollut olevinaan kaikkea kiirettä niin, ettei neulomaan ole ehtinyt ja jostain syystä tämän neulominen oli jollain tasolla hieman tervanjuontia. Suurin syy varmaankin oli se, että minua koko ajan epäilytti tuo väri ja toinen syy oli varmaankin se, että sama kuvio piti toistaa aina 3 kertaa, mikä on mun luonteelleni vähän liikaa. Varsinkin, kun yhdessäkin mallikerrassa sit piti toistaa semmoista pienempää kuviota ties kuinka monta kertaa. Minä olen erittäin herkkä ihminen toistojen suhteen. :)

Mutta, lopputulos on sen arvoinen. Tämä on todellakin unelmankevyt huivi ja heti ensi viikolla menen teatteriin, mikä ehkä on sellainen paikka, minne tämän huivin voisin laittaa. Arkikäyttöön tuo on vähän liikaa.

Finally I was able to finish this. I have explained to myself I have been so busy I have not had time to knit this, but I think the real reason is I have not totally enjoyed knitting of this. I assume the biggest reason for that was the color of the yarn; I was not sure whether I like it or not. Another reason is the pattern; you need to repeat the same pattern 3 times, which is a bit too much for me; I get bored really easily. Furthermore, inside each pattern there were smaller patterns to repeat; I can’t even remember how many repetitions there were. As you might guess I am not a person, who likes repetitive patterns. :)

But, I think the result is worth of it. This is really lightweight shawl and luckily I have theatre tickets for the next week; I can use this shawl then. This is not a shawl, which you can use at the office.

Halloween Mystery 08 / Clue 4

Sain nelosvihjeen valmiiksi eilen - tätä vihjettä oli aikas hauska neuloa, kun siinä ei ollut turhan paljoa helmiä. Helmet sinänsä ovat nättejä, mutta en erikoisemmin tykkää niiden lisäämisestä, kun se sotkee neulomisrytmin. Jos katsot tarkasti, niin saatat huomata, että tässä vihjeessä syntyi perhosia, vaikka saat kyllä katsoa tosi tarkasti; minä vaan levitin tuon keskeneräisen huivin lattialle, enkä "pingottanut" sitä yhtään.

I finished Clue 4 yesterday; it was quite fun to knit, since it did not contain too many beads. I like beads, but adding of those disturbs the rhythm of my knitting. If you look at the pattern carefully you might see the butterflies though I did not "block" this at all; I just spread it on the floor.
