Ostin aikoinaan WM:n Lace Bagin #20 asiaa loppujen lopuksi sen kummemmin ajattelematta. Ajattelematta siinä mielessä, että poikkeuksellisesti lankaa ostaessani minulla ei ollut selkeätä mielikuvaa, mitä siitä tekisin. No, langat marinoituivat minulla jonkin aikaa ja sitten tajusin, että voishan siitä tehdä sen huivin, minkä ohje tulee pakkauksen mukana. Minähän olen aiemmin tehnyt lähinnä pitsihuiveja, mutta Stripe Study -huivin myötä tuli todettua, että sellaiset umpinaisemmatkin huivit ovat varsin käyttökelpoisia.

Quite a long time ago I bought WM Lace Bag #20 without knowing, what I'm going to do with it. That was actually quite unusual for me, since normally I first decide the project and then buy the yarns. After a while I realized I could knit the shawl which instructions are included in the bag. Previously I have been knitting mainly lace shawls, but after finishing Stripe Study shawl I realized this kind of not-lace-shawls are quite useful as well.

Eli minäpä sitten neuloin huivin ohjeen mukaan; Madame Souris lähellä kaulaa, Pesto keskellä ja Petit Poison Nr.5 Light reunalla. Sain tämän valmiiksi anoppiehdokkaan luona ja siinähän sit kävi se perinteinen, minä lähdin kotiin, mutta huivi ei. :D Kuvassa höyrytetty, mutta pingottamaton huivi kännykän kameralla otettuna.

So, I knitted the shawl according to instructions; started with Madame Souris, in the middle I have Pesto and Petit Poison Nr.5 Light as a border. I finished this while I was visiting my mother-in-law and the usual thing happened; I went home, but the shawl did not. :D Due to that you see steamed, but not blocked shawl and I used my mobile's camera.

Sen jälkeen kävi mielessä, että olisihan se ollut hauskaa, jos itselläkin olisi tuollainen huivi. Kanssa-räveltäjältä sain ostettua vähän täydennystä ja valmistui toinen huivi, missä järjestystä piti hieman muuttaa, jotta lanka riittää. Nyt aloitin Petit Poison Nr.5 Lightilla, ostamani Pinie on keskellä ja Madame Souris reunassa.

Later on I thought it would be nice to have same kind of shawl for myself as well. One Ravelry-member sold me one additional skein and I knitted another shawl. However, I needed to change the order a little bit to make sure I do not run out of yarn. This time I started with Petit Poison Nr.5 Light, in the middle I have Pinie and Madame Souris is in the border.

Stripe Study Shawl

Jotenkin ajatus aina-oikein neulotusta huivista on tuntunut äärimmäisen tylsältä - oletin, että sitä neuloessa kyllästyisi viimeistään siinä viidennen kerroksen tienoilla. Uskaltauduin kuitenkin yrittämään, kun minulla oli 2 vyyhteä lankaa, joille en keksinyt oikein muutakaan käyttöä. Langat olivat Titityyn lankaklubista vuodelta 2010 ja oikein mieluisen värisiä, mutta näissä oli se yhden vyyhdin ongelma eli mitä kivaa voisi tehdä, mihin lanka kuitenkin riittäisi?

I have always assumed it would be really boring to knit a shawl using garter stitch - I expected I would give up around 5th row or something like that. However, I thought I could try, since I had 2 skeins and I did not have slightest idea what to do with those. I got those as part of Titityy's sockyarn club couple of years ago and even though I really liked the colors I had this "one-skein-problem". It is actually quite difficult to find interesting projects which use only one skein.

Päätinpä sitten tehdä Veera Välimäen Stripe Study Shawlin.

I decided to knit Veera Välimäki's Stripe Study Shawl.

Muokkasin ohjetta hieman, tein loppuun kapeita raitoja ilman lyhennettyjä kerroksia, jotta sain tuon vaalean langan käytettyä loppuun - sitä ei ollut riittävästi vielä yhteen leveämpään raitaan. Tummemmalla langalla neuloin reunusta niin pitkälle kuin lankaa riitti.

I modified the pattern a little bit; I had hand painted yarn for 11 short-row-stripes, but not enough for 12th stripe; instead of that I made 6 two-row-stripes. Then I used all the remaining darker yarn for the border.

Ja kyseisen huivin neulominen ei ollut sitten lainkaan tylsää!!! :D

And it was not boring at all to knit this!!! :D

Crocodile Shawl

Ja virkkausbuumi senkun jatkuu. Ravelryn Tiukkapipoisten varastoneulojien elokuun haasteessa oli valittavina vaihtoehtoina sininen lanka ja/tai thread-cobweb-lace vahvuista lankaa ja/tai virkkausta. No, minäpä onnistuin sit täyttämään nuo kaikki 3 vaihtoehtoa tässä yhdessä ja samassa työssä!

Again some crocheting. I belong to "Tiukkapipoiset varastoneulojat" -group in Ravelry and the main idea of the group is we knit/crochet using yarn from our stash instead of buying new yarn. Every month we have a challenge which contains 3 alternatives and if you join the challenge you should fulfill at least one of those. The alterntives in August challenge were blue yarn and/or thread-cobweb-lace weight yarn and/or crocheting. This time I was able to fulfil all of those 3 alternatives with this project!

Huivi on melko pieni, ns. kaulahuivi kokoa, mutta kyllä sitä silti sai virkkailla yli 1000 jaardia lankaa. Oli ihan mielenkiintoista kokeilla tuota krokotiili-jutskaa, vaikka se sitten pidemmän päälle kävikin vähän puuduttavaksi. :D

The shawl is quite small even though I used over 1000 yards yarn for it. It was nice to try this crocodile stitch; it was something new for me. However, I had to admit the last rows where quite boring to do; nothing new, just the same stitch again and again and again... :D

In Dreams

Nonni, huivi valmistui viime vuoden lokakuussa ja "jo" nyt kesällä sain sen pingotettua. Kyseessä siis In Dreams huivi, joka on tehty Wollmeisen Lacesta.

I finished this shawl last year - in the middle of October, but it took quite a while before I blocked it. This shawl is In Dreams and I made it using Wollmeise's Lace yarn.

Just a quick posting; just wanted to share the information I am still knitting this shawl and it is progressing. :D

In Dreams, Clue 1

Ravelryssa törmäsin eräässä ketjussa kyseiseen huiviin ja tykästyin heti. Oli siinä mielessä jännä Mystery KAL, että siihen pystyi matti myöhäisetkin osallistumaan. Minä lähdin mukaan siis siinä vaiheessa, kun kaikki vihjeet oli jo julkaistu ja osa oli jo saanut huivinsa valmiiksi.

Huivista pitäisi tulla puolipyörylä ja lisäyksiä tehdään, missä sattuu. Ihan hauska. Alkuperäiseen malliin tulisi todella paljon helmiä, mutta koska minä käytän huivejani arkena toimistolla, niin runsaat helmikoristelut ovat mielestäni hieman liikaa. Minä teen huivini siis ilman helmiä. Mutta, täytyy silti mainita, että ainakin tässä ekassa vihjeessä helmet olisi lisätty nurjan puolen kerroksilla ja niitä on PALJON.

Huivin suunnittelija on minulle uusi tuttavuus, Susan Pandorf eli Sunflower Designs. Huivin teema liittyy Taruun Sormusten Herrasta.

I will use the WM Lace, Fliederbusch.

I saw a picture of this shawl in one of the Ravely’s threads and I liked the result a lot. This is a bit different Mystery Shawl KAL, since it was possible to join in later phase as well. I joined couple of days ago and all the clues have been already published and some of the members have finished their shawls already.

The shape of this shawl is half circle and it contains a lot of beads and inserts are not in line. Since I use my shawls at the office I decided NOT to insert beads, since I think the shawl with beads is not totally appropriate for everyday use. However, I still have to mention; in this shawl you should add the beads during the wrong side rows and at least in the first clue there were A LOT of those.

I have not seen this designer’s works earlier; though it seems she has several designs already. Her name is Susan Pandorf from Sunflower Designs. The theme of the shawl is related to Lord of the Rings.

Clue 1:

Windsbraut "Manaus"

Tulipa ensimmäistä kertaa tehtyä Wollklabauterin eli Monica Eckertin suunnittelema huivi. Siitäkin huolimatta, että olen niitä hänen huivejaan pidempään katsellut. Olin mukana tuossa Windsbraut "Manaus" huivin KAL:ssa, mutta enhän minä sitä silloin tehnyt, vaan innostuin äitienpäivän hujakoilla, että joskos nyt sen pyöräyttäisin.

Nuo Windsbrautit ovat näemmä aika pieniä ja nopeatekoisia. Kolmion kärki osuu suunnilleen vyötärölle eli on tosiaan pikkuhuivi. Tuo muotoilu on mukava, huivi pysyy hartioilla ja kärjet on helppo vetää vaikka solmuun. Ja tässä nyt ensin kuva muistutuksena siitä, miksi huivi kannattaa pingottaa. Siinä on kohtuullinen ero tuohon toiseen kuvaan.



I knitted for the first time a shawl designed by Monica Eckert (Wollklabauter). Actually, I do not know why I have not knitted her shawls earlier even though I have been following her designs quite a long time. I even participated to this Windsbraut "Manaus" KAL, but did not knit it. Then around mothers' day I decided now it is time to do it.

These Windsbraut shawls seems to be quite small and quick to knit. The point reaches my waist, so I might call it shawlette instead of shawl. I like the shape, it settles nicely on the shoulders and you can easily tie those two ends together.

You can see from the first picture why it is useful to block shawls. At least I hope you can see the difference between these two pictures. :D

Totesin, että taitaa olla aika pingottaa tämä huivi, kun Ravelryn Kaheleissakin annettiin ymmärtää, että lankojen päättelyn puolivuotisjuhla on ihan sovelias hetki moiselle ponnistukselle.

Huivi on syksyn Mystery Shawl #13 ja se tosiaan valmistui <köh...> syyskuun 3. päivä. En oikein tiedä, mikä tuossa pingottamisessa on niin pistänyt hanttiin - siellä huoneessa on kyllä ollut kaikenlaista roinaa, kun viereisessä huoneessa on ollut pientä uudelleenjärjestelyä, mutta ei se silti se varsinainen syy ole ollut. Jos olisin oikeasti halunnut tuon huivin pingottaa, niin se ei olisi ollut temppu eikä mikään.

Ehkä siinä oli se, että se näytti loppujen lopuksi aika järkyttävän riemunkirjavalta ennen pingotusta:



I thought it is finally time to block this – especially since I was given to believe half a year after binding off is proper time to wait and I do not have to wait any more. :D I got this information from co-knitters in Ravelry’s Kahelit-group. (Kahelit: A Finnish speaking group, which name in English is something like “nuts”.)

This shawl is Mystery Shawl 2009 #13 and I finished it <coughing…> on 3rd of September. I really do not know why I did not want to block this. There have been some additional things in the room which I usually use, but that is not the root cause for avoiding this; if I had wanted to block it I would have done it.

Perhaps the problem was the yarn, as you can see from the picture above it was quite… colorful?

No, nyt tuli tehtyä neljäs vihje ja tämän aikana se Campari Piccolon näköinen WD-lanka sit loppui. Jatkot tulee tehtyä WD Campari Orangella - pikkasen jo näkyy uutta väriä huivin reunassa. Vihje 5 on jo julkaistu ja onneksi se on melkos simppeli eli aika paljon ihan sileää - olettaisin, että se sopii tuon kirjavamman langan kanssa paremmin. Odotan mielenkiinnolla, että mitä tästä loppujen lopuksi tulee. Se perinteinen eli hieman outo vai olisiko tuo hieman erivärinen reuna kivakin.



I have now finished the clue 4 and during it the WD Campari Piccolo finished and I changed to WD Campari Orange. You can see a little bit of new color in the border of the shawl. GoddessKnits has already published the Clue 5 and it seems it is quite a simple pattern; I guess that is better with this more variegated yarn. Let's see what the result is; weird or nice.

Joskohan laittaisi muutaman kuvan työn alla olevasta huivista. Tekeillä on siis GoddessKnitsin MysteryShawl #16. Lankana käytän noita ostamiani Wollmeise-lankoja, mistä puhuin yhdessä aikaisemmassa postauksessa. Aloitin WD Campari Piccololla ja ihan kivalta se näyttää, vaikka oranssi on jotain, mikä ei ole minun värimaailmaani kuulunut. Perhaps it is a good time to add some pictures about the shawl I am knitting. It is GoddessKnits’ MysteryShawl #16 and I am using Wollmeise’s yarn, which you can see in my previous post. I started with WD Campari Piccolo and it looks quite nice though I am not that kind of person who usually uses orange. It will be interesting to see whether I can use that or whether I am knitting a shawl for some one else. :D

Mystery Shawl #13 Clue 4

No, nyt on neljäskin vihje tehty ja koska lanka on, mitä on, niin otin vain tuollaisen lähikuvan, josko siitä näkisi paremmin, että mitä siellä tapahtuu. Hieman huolestuttaa tuo huivin koko. Tarvittavasta langan määrästä pystyi päättelemään, että mistään hirveän isosta huivista ei ole kysymys, mutta mulla ei ole mennyt vielä edes 100 grammaa lankaa ja koska käyttämäni lanka on paksuhkoa (fingering weight), niin käytännössä se tarkoittaa, että hyvä, jos lankaa on mennyt sellaiset 350 metriä. Mikä on varsin vähän, ellei viides vihje ole sitten todella pitkä. :D



I have finished the 4th clue and since the yarn dominates the pattern I took a picture about the detail only. Perhaps it is easier to see what is going on. I am little bit worried about the size of the shawl; it seems it is going to be really small. I knew it won’t be huge based on the yarn amount information given, but I did not expect such a small one either. I have finished 4th clue and I have not used even 100 g of yarn. Since I am using fingering weight it means I have used less than 400 yards so far. I really hope the clue 5 will be a long one. :D

Liityin jo joku aika sitten Goddessknits'in Mystery Shawl #13 ryhmään. Koska oli noita viimeistelemättömiä huiveja, niin en antanut itselleni lupaa aloittaa tätä ennenkuin nuo on viimeistelty. Eli minä pystyn kiristämään, lahjomaan ja uhkailemaan ihan itse itseäni.

Jostain hämmentävästä syystä minua on kiehtonut ajatus, että tekisin pitsihuivin jostain aivan älyttömästä langasta eli oikein riemunkirjavasta pätkärääkätystä. Tämä siitäkin huolimatta, että olen erittäin tietoinen, että tuollaisen langan kanssa ei tarvitse edes kuvitella, että pitsikuvio kovin hääppöisesti erottuisi.

No, tämä mysteeri rupesi sit tuntumaan siltä, että tämä on SE kokeilu. Kaivoin tarkoitusta varten jo toissa keväänä ostamani langat. Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock Multi, väriltään Up Town, seuraksi turkooseja helmiä. Näin:



I joined some time ago to Goddessknits’ Mystery Shawl #13 group. Since I had couple of unfinished shawls already I did not permit myself to start this one before the other ones were finished. So, I am able to “blackmail, threaten and bribe” myself.

For some weird reason I have been thinking it would be nice to knit a shawl using something really colorful yarn. Though I am aware the result most probably is not the best possible. At least you are not able to see the pattern at all.

When starting this mystery I got the feeling this is THE ONE. I have had suitable yarn in my stash waiting for this; it is Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock Multi, color called “Up Town”. I also have some turquoise beads as you can see in the picture above.

Fairy Wings - 2009 Mystery Shawl #12

Hohhoijaa, taisin tuossa Virkattu Kori postauksessa 5. heinäkuuta mainita jotain siitä, että ois yks huivi ollut valmiina jo jonkun aikaa, mutta jostain syystä en ole saanut kiikutettua sitä yläkertaan ja pingotettua. No, katselin Ravelrysta muistiinpanojani ja totesin, että huivi valmistui 9.6. ja "jo" nyt, pari päivää sitten, sain sen kiikutettua pihalle ja pingotettua. Ei se kauaa kestänyt, taitaa olla oma henkilökohtainen hitausennätykseni. No, tällä hetkellä on ulkosalla myös Summer Mystery eli Wildflower venymässä, joten josko siitäkin sit saisi kuvat piakkoin näytille.

Ensin kuva, jossa näkyy se kuvio hyvin ja sit perässä seuraa kuva, mistä näkee ehkä paremmin sen värin. Kyllähän se on pakko joka huivista ottaa tuo "o-ho, kuka on nakannut huivini puuhun/pensaaseen/kiven päälle?" -kuva.

I think I mentioned during the Crocheted Basket -post I have some troubles with blocking. For some reason I felt lazy and did not want to go upstairs and block the shawl which I finished already some time ago. I checked my Ravelry notes and realized I finished the shawl already in the beginning of June and it took 2 more monts before I took the shawl outside (instead of upstairs) and blocked it!? I guess this is my personal "best." :D However, immediately after this one I blocked the Summer Mystery Shawl as well. I just have to wait until it is dry and then I can take some pictures about that as well.

In the first picture you can see the pattern quite well and in the second one you (hopefully) can see the correct color.

Mystery Shawl #12 Clue 1

Jaa-a, olen "pikkasen" jäljessä tämän kanssa, ei ole ollut olevinaan aikaa ja intoa (!?) neuloa ollenkaan, joten nyt sain tehtyä ekan vihjeen, vaikka viime viikonloppuna julkaistiin jo neljäs vihje. Että silleen. Jotenkin tästä ei edes irtoa mitään sanottavaa, vaikka tykkään mallista ja tykkään langasta. Niin, langanhan sain Ravely-vaihdossa pariltani. :D

For some reason I am really late with this one; I haven't had time nor motivation (!?) to knit. So, I just finished the Clue 1 though Clue 4 was already published during last weekend. Weird. In addition to that I have nothing to say about this, though I like the pattern and I like the yarn, which I got from Finnish Knitters' Ravelry Swap. :D

Halloween Mystery 2008 name published

Renee julkaisi tuon huivin nimen jo joku aika sitten - siitä tuli Samhain. Mikä siis on muinaiskelttien Halloweenia vastaava juhla; ainakin Wikipedian mukaan. Ja pitää vielä retostella, että mysteerin lopuksi jaetussa kokonaisessa ohjeessa on mun huivi kansikuvana. :D

Renee has published the name of the Halloween Mystery Shawl 2008 already some time ago; it is Samhain. According to Wikipedia it is old celtic festival, which is quite similar with Halloween. And I have to mention, we received the complete instructions in the end of mystery and Renee asked if she could use the picture of my shawl as a cover page; I gave the permission. :D It is the one which I included to this post as well.

I have updated the correct name to last Halloween Mystery Shawl 2008 post. At the same time I removed all the spoiler alerts, since those are quite useless in the beginning of each post anymore.

Cailleach - Winter Mystery Shawl 08

Niinno, tarkkaan ottaen tuo tuli valmiiksi jo vähän aiemmin, mutta tänään onnistuin napsimaan siitä pikkasen kuvia, mikä ei ole ihan helppo homma, kun kyseessä on tuommoinen pötkylä. Otin kuvat sit lähinnä pätkissä, eiköhän niistä jonkun kokonaiskuvan saa.

Ohjeen mukaan tuo huivi ois pitänyt tehdä lace weight langasta, mutta minä käytin varastoista löytyvää fingering weight lankaa. Veti vähän tiukoille, noiden hörselöiden kohdalla kävi niin, että niissä oli 18 kerrosta ja kerros numero 19 ois ollut päättelykerros. No, siinä kävi niin, että sellaiset 20 silmukkaa jäi päättelemättä, kun lanka loppui - onneksi en ollut katkaissut lankaa eli tein toista hörselöä lankakeran toisesta päästä ja toista toisesta. Purin sit taaksepäin ja päättelin samalla, kun tein viimeistä "kuviokerrosta" eli tuota kerrosta numero 18. Eipä siinä varsinaisesti mitään kuviota ole, kun vaan levennellään koko ajan, että tulee tuollainen rimpsu.

Actually I finished this a bit earlier, but I did not have possibility to take pictures until now. It is bit difficult since it is dark almost all the time here in Finland due to winter. Other problem is the shape of the shawl, I was not able to have a good picture where you can see the whole shawl at the same time, but hopefully you get some idea.

I did not use the recommend lace weight yarn but fingering weight instead. When I started the shawl I knew it is possible I do not have enough yarn, but luckily there were almost enough. When I knitted those ruffles I made the 18 pattern rows and started to bind off after that. When the yarn run out I still had something like 20 stitches left, but since I did not cut the yarn it did not matter. I mean I knitted the both ruffles at the same time; the other one from the one end of the ball and the another one using the other end. So, instead of binding off during row 19 I did it already during the last pattern row number 18.

No, nyt on 4 vihjettä julkaistu ja uskaltauduin alkamaan tämän. Minulla on lanka, joka alunperin oli tarkoitettu Mystery Shawl #9 huiviin, mutta jotenkin en pitänyt kyseisestä huivista ja purin tekemäni alun. No, minusta tuo lanka sopisi erittäin hyvin tähän, mutta ongelma on se, että minulla on sitä vain 1100 jaardia, kun Renee ilmoitti, että tähän tarvittaisiin 1200. Samoin halusin varmistaa, että tämä suorakaiteen mallinen huivi on todellakin symmetrinen yms. eli voin sit tehdessäni punnita, että paljonko lankaa on mennyt ja sit puolessa välissä huivia voin tsekata riittääkö lanka vai joudunko purkamaan koko siihen asti tekemäni työn. Okay, Renee has now published 4 Clues of Winter Mystery Shawl 08 and I decided to start it now. I have yarn which was originally intended for Mystery Shawl #9, but for some reason I did not like the pattern and frogged the shawl almost in the beginning. I feel this yarn would suit perfectly for this Winter Mystery, but the problem is I have only 1100 yds when Renee said this needs 1200 yds. I have noticed Renee’s estimations are a bit generous, but there have been situations where we have used all the yarn and once the pattern was changed a bit since the recommended yarn was not enough.

Due to this yarn problem I wanted to wait and see whether I like the pattern and whether I want to take the risk. In addition to that I wanted to be sure this rectangular is really symmetrical etc. Then it is possible for me to follow-up how much yarn I have used for each clue and in the middle of shawl I can just count whether I have enough yarn to finish the shawl or whether I have to frog the whole thing I have made so far. I assume, it is clear for you it is not possible to get more of that yarn… :)
