Stripe Study Shawl

Jotenkin ajatus aina-oikein neulotusta huivista on tuntunut äärimmäisen tylsältä - oletin, että sitä neuloessa kyllästyisi viimeistään siinä viidennen kerroksen tienoilla. Uskaltauduin kuitenkin yrittämään, kun minulla oli 2 vyyhteä lankaa, joille en keksinyt oikein muutakaan käyttöä. Langat olivat Titityyn lankaklubista vuodelta 2010 ja oikein mieluisen värisiä, mutta näissä oli se yhden vyyhdin ongelma eli mitä kivaa voisi tehdä, mihin lanka kuitenkin riittäisi?

I have always assumed it would be really boring to knit a shawl using garter stitch - I expected I would give up around 5th row or something like that. However, I thought I could try, since I had 2 skeins and I did not have slightest idea what to do with those. I got those as part of Titityy's sockyarn club couple of years ago and even though I really liked the colors I had this "one-skein-problem". It is actually quite difficult to find interesting projects which use only one skein.

Päätinpä sitten tehdä Veera Välimäen Stripe Study Shawlin.

I decided to knit Veera Välimäki's Stripe Study Shawl.

Muokkasin ohjetta hieman, tein loppuun kapeita raitoja ilman lyhennettyjä kerroksia, jotta sain tuon vaalean langan käytettyä loppuun - sitä ei ollut riittävästi vielä yhteen leveämpään raitaan. Tummemmalla langalla neuloin reunusta niin pitkälle kuin lankaa riitti.

I modified the pattern a little bit; I had hand painted yarn for 11 short-row-stripes, but not enough for 12th stripe; instead of that I made 6 two-row-stripes. Then I used all the remaining darker yarn for the border.

Ja kyseisen huivin neulominen ei ollut sitten lainkaan tylsää!!! :D

And it was not boring at all to knit this!!! :D

Crocodile Shawl

Ja virkkausbuumi senkun jatkuu. Ravelryn Tiukkapipoisten varastoneulojien elokuun haasteessa oli valittavina vaihtoehtoina sininen lanka ja/tai thread-cobweb-lace vahvuista lankaa ja/tai virkkausta. No, minäpä onnistuin sit täyttämään nuo kaikki 3 vaihtoehtoa tässä yhdessä ja samassa työssä!

Again some crocheting. I belong to "Tiukkapipoiset varastoneulojat" -group in Ravelry and the main idea of the group is we knit/crochet using yarn from our stash instead of buying new yarn. Every month we have a challenge which contains 3 alternatives and if you join the challenge you should fulfill at least one of those. The alterntives in August challenge were blue yarn and/or thread-cobweb-lace weight yarn and/or crocheting. This time I was able to fulfil all of those 3 alternatives with this project!

Huivi on melko pieni, ns. kaulahuivi kokoa, mutta kyllä sitä silti sai virkkailla yli 1000 jaardia lankaa. Oli ihan mielenkiintoista kokeilla tuota krokotiili-jutskaa, vaikka se sitten pidemmän päälle kävikin vähän puuduttavaksi. :D

The shawl is quite small even though I used over 1000 yards yarn for it. It was nice to try this crocodile stitch; it was something new for me. However, I had to admit the last rows where quite boring to do; nothing new, just the same stitch again and again and again... :D

Pink Pineapple Doily

Törmäsin kesällä Kuljun kartanossa tälläiseen hassuun virkkauslankaan ja pitihän sitä ostaa pari kerää sillä ajatuksella, että teen niistä jonkun liinan.

I visited Kuljun Kartano shop last summer (it's a shop selling all kind of things) and I had to bought this yarn, since I thought it is quite interesting. I was not sure what would I do with it, but I assumed couple skeins is enough for a doily.

No, niinhän siinä kävi, että eipä se 2 kerää ihan riittänytkään. Jälleen kerran tein pöytäliinan, josta puuttuu pari viimeistä kerrosta ja sen sijaan on joku oma sävellys. Malli on American Thread Companyn Pink Pineapple Doily.

My assumption was not correct... Once again I have crocheted a doily without the last couple of rows & having some own modifications instead. Pattern is American Thread Company's Pink Pineapple Doily.

Starburst Pannunalunen / Starburst Hotpad

Pitihän sitä tämmöistäkin kokeilla, kyseessä siis Starburst Hotpad -ohjeen mukaan pikaisesti tehty pannunalunen, joka löysi samantien uuden omistajan. :D Kuvia sen verran, että taidan jättää höpinät väliin.

I had to try how to make this, the pattern is Starburst Hotpad and it was quite a quick project to crochet. And it immediately got a new owner as well. :D I took so many pictures; I think it is enough to share those instead of "talking".

29-45 Doily

Joillakin ohjeilla on varsin "mielenkiintoisia" nimiä... Vielä jäi Novitan virkkauslankaa rippunen jäljelle, joten metsästin ohjeen, johon se olisi riittänyt. No, kävi ne perinteiset ja lanka loppui kesken eli ei riittänyt 2 viimeiseen kerrokseen. Olisi pitänyt tehdä kerros pylväitä ja kerros kiinteitä silmukoita ja vähän pientä koristelua sekaan - niiden sijaan virkkasin kerroksen kiinteitä silmukoita ilman mitään kikkailuja.

Some patterns have quite "interesting" names... After the previous doily I still had some Novita Virkkauslanka left and I searched a small pattern which I could crochet using those leftovers. As usual, I did NOT have enough yarn. :D Due to that I had to skip last two rows and crochet basic single crochets instead.

Iso Ananasliina / Large Pineapple Doily

Löysin tälläisen ohjeen Celt's Vintage Crochet -ryhmän ohjeista. Pitihän se kokeilla, ohje on englanniksi ja kirjoitettu eli ei kaavioita, mikä ei minulle ole se ihan ykkösvaihtoehto. Kieli ei haittaa, mutta jos saisi valita, niin tekisin mieluummin kaavioiden perusteella. Tuolta se näytti keskeneräisenä:

I found instructions for this from Celt's Vintage Crochet -group. I had to try it, instructions are in English and in written format, which is not the best option for me. I do not mind English, but I prefer charts. In the picture above you can see the work in progress -picture.

Lankana Novitan Virkkauslankaa ja koukku kokoa 1.5 mm. Ja ekassa kuvassa työ on vielä märkä ja neuloilla pingotettuna, tokassa kuvassa saa ehkä ajatusta siitä, minkä kokoinen valmis liina on.

I used Novita's Virkkauslanka (mercerized cotton) and the hook size was 1.5 mm. In the first picture you can see wet and blocked doily and the second one hopefully gives you some idea about the size of the finished doily.

Pannulappu / Pot Holder

Piti yksi sunnuntai kokeilla, että miten tämmöinen tehdään. Tein isomman kuin ohjeessa eli aloitusketjuni pituus oli 46 ketjusilmukkaa. Lankana Peaches & Cream, mutta käytin pienempää virkkuukoukkua, 5.0 sijasta 4.0 mm. Lopputuloksena syntyi 20 cm x 20 cm patalappu, mikä minusta on hyvä koko. Jotenkin tuntuu, että alkuperäisen ohjeen mukaan ois tullut tosi pikkuruinen. No, nämä ovat tietty makuasioita, mutta minusta pannulapun pitää olla reiluhko.

One Sunday I wanted to try how to crochet this kind of pot holder. I made a bigger one than instructed, my starting chain contained 46 ch. I used Peaches & Cream yarn but my hook was 4.0 mm (G) instead of 5.0 mm (H). As a result I got a pot holder which size is 20 cm x 20 cm which is good in my opinion. It seemed the original one would have been far too small - of course others prefer smaller pot holders but I think a little bit bigger one is more practical.
