Retro Rib Sukat / Socks

Nonni, nyt on elämän ensimmäisest Wollmeise-sukat tehty. Malliksi valikoitui Retro Rib Socks. Tosin, siinä kävi kyllä silleen, että ohjeesta otin vain mallineuleen ja muuten tein sukat silleen kuin yleensäkin teen. Sukkien koko on jälleen siinä 46-47 hujakoilla, jotta oikein pääsi fiilistelemään. :D Varsi on lyhyt, noin 13 cm, koska sukkien omistaja tykkää pitää sisällä kohtuu lyhytvartisia sukkia.

Ja näiden sukkien kohdalla tapahtui ahaa-elämys. Minä voin käyttää kahta eri tekniikkaa yksissä sukissa. Varret, kiilakavennukset ja jalkaosa on tehty sukkapuikkoja käyttäen, mutta kantalapussa mulla oli pyöröt - silloin ne odottavat silmukat pysyy sievästi siinä kaapelissa, eikä sukkapuikot sojota mihin sattuu. Kärkikavennuksetkin tein Magic Loopilla, koska siinäkin se homma pelittää paremmin, kun silmukoita rupeaa olemaan aika vähän.

Täytyy täälläkin todeta, että mä en oikein ymmärrä tuota Magic Loopin ihannointia. Siis se on minusta hienoa, että useat ihmiset pitävät kyseistä tekniikkaa maailman parhaana ja ihanana jne. mutta sitä minä en oikein ymmärrä, että oletus tuntuu olevan, että se on ihan kaikille se parhain/mukavin tapa neuloa pyöröä. Tarkoitan siis sitä, että jos menen sanomaan, että minä en tykkää neuloa Magic Loop -tekniikalla, niin sitä mielipidettä ei tavallaan hyväksytä. Ensin sanotaan, että minä olen varmasti käyttänyt huonoja puikkoja tai niiden mitta on ollut väärä. Kun kerron, että olen käyttänyt suositeltuja puikkoja suositellussa mitassa, niin sen jälkeen tulee tunne, että porukat epäilevät, että minä en vaan osaa kyseistä tekniikkaa oikein. No, se siitä, mutta ajattelin vaan kertoa, jos joku muukin mieluummin valitsee sukkapuikot pitkien pyöröjen sijaan - et ole ainoa. :D

Puikot/Needles: 2.5 mm (US 1½)

Okay, these are my first Wollmeise socks. I used the Retro Rib Sock pattern – actually I made the socks as I usually do and just used the rib pattern from those instructions. The size of the socks is around 46-47 European; so I had possibility to really enjoy knitting Wollmeise. :D The cuff and leg is quite short, only 13 cm, since the owner prefer short ones when using socks at home.

When knitting these socks I realized for the first time I can use two different methods for same socks. I used DPNs for cuff, leg, heel gusset and foot, but I used circular needles for heel and toe. During the heel it is easy to storage those waiting stitches on the cable and during the toe it is easier to use Magic Loop –method instead of DPNs. At least I think it is bit difficult when you have only few stitches and several DPNs.

However, I have to admit I do not totally understand why Magic Loop is so popular. Or should I say; I understand there are lot of people who really like the Magic Loop –method, but I do not understand why everybody should like it. I have noticed that if I say I do not like the method the most common answer is; you have used wrong kind of circulars. When I explain I have used e.g. Addi’s and the length is according to recommendations then the next comment is something which makes me feel they suspect I do not master the Magic Loop –method at all. But that’s it – I just wanted to share my opinion in case there is another person who prefers DPNs instead of long circulars; you are not alone. :D

Hexagon Blanket

No, eipä ole tännekään "tarvinnut" kirjoitella yhtikäs mitään suunnilleen kuukauteen, kun mitään ei ole valmistunut ennenkuin nyt. Tuli tehtyä tuosta peitosta hieman isompi kuin ehkä alunperin ajattelinkaan. Se on sopiva päiväpeitto 120 x 200 cm sänkyyn. Ja ihan lähiaikoina en taida virkkailla hexagoneja. Vaikka hauskaa tuon tekeminen oli. Jos en ihan sekaisin laskuissani mennyt, niin tein 242 kokonaista hexagonia ja 20 puolikasta. Reunoihin pari kerrosta pylväitä ja yks kiekka rapuvirkkausta.

Novitan Puro oli mukavaa virkattavaa ja vaikka keriä meni sellaiset 45 kipaletta, niin en kyllä kovin moneen solmuun törmännyt - en niitä laskenut, mutta kyllä ne saattoi pystyä laskemaan yhden käden sormilla tai sit ehkä pari päälle. Ajattelin vain mainita, kun aika moni on moittinut joidenkin Novitan lankojen solmuisuutta. Minulla ei aiheesta pahemmin kokemusta ole, koska Novitan langoista tulee käytettyä lähinnä sitä Kotiväkeä, ei muita.

Sen verran kyllä kommentoisin tuosta langasta, että miettisin varmaan toisenkin kerran, lähtisinkö tekemään siitä esimerkiksi jotain puseroa tai jakkua. Kun virkkasin peitteen reunuksia, niin kiinnitin huomiota siihen, että peiton alkupään laput olivat jo hieman huopuneet pinnoiltaan. Peittoa kun joutui koko ajan pyörittelemään lappuja kiinnittäessä. Huopuminen on mielestäni peitossa on ihan ok; jo aloittaessani oletin, että näin tulee käymään. Mutta en välttämättä haluaisi, että neulejakku huopuisi, mistä sitä itseä sattuu huvittamaan - esim. kyljistä.

Hexagonien idean sain Attic24:ltä, mutta muokkasin niitä ihan pikkasen. Puolikkaiden hexagonien idean sain vuorostani Knitting Nonnilta, mutta sitäkin mallia tuli hieman sörkittyä. :D

I used Attic24 instructions for hexagons, but I modified the pattern just a bit. Then I found half hexagons from Knitting Nonni's blog, but I modified that pattern as well, but not much. :D



I have been busy lately with this Hexagon Blanket and that is the reason why I have not written for the long time. I have not finished anything for a long time. :D I made a bigger blanket than I originally assumed; this is big enough for a bed, which size is 120 x 200 cm. And I have to admit I am NOT going to crochet hexagons for a while - though it was fun. I am not sure, whether I counted those correctly, but I think I made 242 whole hexagons and 20 half hexagons. I crocheted couple of rounds double crochets and one round crab stitches for the border.

Novita Puro was nice yarn to crochet and it did not contain knots though I used 45 balls of yarn. There were only few of those, perhaps 5, not much more. I just wanted to mention that since quite a many has complained Novita yarns contain lots of knots. I do not have much experience of Novita, since usually I use only Novita’s Kotiväki yarn, which is a bit different.

However, I have to admit I would not use this for e.g. cardigans. When I crocheted the border I noticed the first hexagons were already felted a bit. When combining those hexagons I had to move the blanket all the time and I guess that caused the sings of wear. However, I knew already in the beginning that might be possible and I think it is okay with blanket. But I would not like to wear a cardigan which has signs of wear immediately after finishing it.

Kävi mielessä, että ehkä tästäkin voisi näyttää todisteen, jotta työ edistyy. :D Olen siis todennäköisesti tehnyt yli puolet peitosta. Ainakin luulisin - tosin sen näkee sitten, kun tietää, minkä kokoinen siitä peitosta loppujen lopuksi tuli tehtyä.

It came to my mind I could show a proof I am actually doing something related to this blanket. :D I assume I have crocheted more than half of the blanket. However, I cannot be sure before I have finished it and see the actual size.

TitiTyyn Sukkalankaklubi / TitiTyy's Sock Yarn Club

Mietin, että pitäisikö minun huolestua. Joku aika sitten ostin nuo Wollmeiset ja nyt olen vielä TitiTyyn sukkalankaklubissa. Minulla ei ole ollut tapana ostella lankaa tietämättä kohtuu tarkkaan, mitä aion niistä tehdä. No, onneksi nämä kaikki ovat sukkalankoja, joten siinä mielessä niiden suhteen ei tule ongelmaa. :D

Tämä oli ensimmäinen lanka ja näyttäisi olevan The Knitting Goddessin käsinvärjättyä lankaa. Lappu kertoo, että tässä on 100 g eli noin 425 metriä 4ply sukkalankaa, missä on 75% superwash merinoa ja 25% nylonia. Värin nimi on Chilli Pepper. Tykkään.



I am not sure whether I should get worried. First I bought some Wollmeise yarn and in addition to that I joined TitiTyy’s Sock Yarn Club. This means I have bought yarn without knowing what I am going to make from it and that has not been my habit before. Luckily these are sock yarns; there won’t be a problem with these. :D

This is the first yarn and it seems to be The Knitting Goddess’ hand dyed sock yarn. There is 100 g / app. 425 meters 4ply sock yarn, which contains 75% superwash merino and 25% nylon. Colourway is Chilli Pepper. I like it.

Wollmeise

Nonni, pitihän sekin jännitys kokeilla. Ensin epämääräistä ihmettelyä, että mikä tai kuka on Wollmeise, sen jälkeen kyttäystä, että koska sinne sivuille tulee jotain myytävää ja sit, kun vihdoin tulee, niin sit puolipaniikissa tilaamista, vaikka ei ollutkaan ihan varma, että ymmärsikö värien kuvaukset oikein.

Tulivat postissa tänään ja ihan mukavilta langoilta näyttävät.

Okay, I had to try it. In the beginning I wondered who or what is Wollmeise. After understanding that I started serious observation when the shop will be updated. When I finally visited the pages when there were something available I just ordered something without actually knowing whether I have understood the color description correctly.

I got those yarns today and luckily I was able to order something nice.

Jämälankapeitto / Leftover Blanket

Jaa-a, kyllästyin niiden lappusten tekoon ja nyt sit lähdin jatkamaan hommaa käyttämällä hyväkseni Jämä-Ullassa ollutta Lauran suunnittelemaa Kaaospeiton ohjetta. Mulla rupeaa ne sekalaiset nöttöset olemaan aika vähissä ja totesin, että kummallinen peitto tästä tulee joka tapauksessa, niin jatketaan kokeilulinjalla eli yhdistellään neuletta ja virkattuja lappusia. Tämän ei ole tarkoitus olla mikään kodin tyylikäs sisustuselementti, vaan tämä tosiaan on jämälankojen tuhoamisprojekti, jonka tuloksena toivottavasti syntyy jotain lämmittävää.

Minä jaksan sitä aina ihmetellä, että miten muilla on aina niin passelisti sopiva määrä toisiinsa sointuvia langanjämiä, joista syntyy tyylikäs ja kauniisti sommiteltu kokonaisuus. Mun jämälankaprojektit yleensä todellakin näyttää siltä, että ne on tehty kaikenmaailman jämistä. Olen tosin toiveikas, että tästä kehittyy hieman paremman näköistä, miltä tämä keskeneräinen tekele näyttää.



I got bored of crocheting those blocks and I decided to continue using the idea from Laura’s Kaaospeitto instructions which was available in Jämä-Ulla. The amount of different colors seems to be quite limited; I have used most of the smallest leftovers already. So, I decided I will combine knitting and those crocheted blocks, though it might look quite weird. On the other hand I am not aiming for something, which I could use for decorating my home, but I am aiming for something, which is warm and where I can use all the leftover yarns I have.

I always wonder why everybody else seems to have suitable amount of leftovers which suits with each other; the result is something elegant and harmonic. My leftover projects look like leftover projects. I really hope this one will be a little bit better looking when it is finished; currently it seems to be a bit odd.

Hexagon Blanket

Kävin eilen äitini kanssa kylillä ja sillä reissulla poikkesimme paikalliseen Löytötexiin. No, mielessä on pyörinyt, että siitä Novitan Purosta voisi tulla hupaisa peitto ja kun kerran löysin itseni sopivasta kaupasta, niin pitihän sitä mennä lankahyllylle norkoilemaan. Päädyin sit ostamaan Iltanuotiota, Kanervikkoa ja Ruskaa - yhden kerän kutakin. Se Tundra näytti peittomateriaaliksi hieman turhankin synkältä, vaikka vaateväreinä siitä pitäisinkin ja se Revontulet oli sit taas jotenkin liian riemunkirjava. Jäätynyttä karpaloa ei tainnut kaupassa sit edes ollakaan.

No, pitihän sitä sit kokeilla eli lähdin tekemään Attic24:n Hexagon How-to -mallin mukaan. Vaikka räpsäisemästäni kuvasta tuli varsin heikkolaatuinen, niin ymmärrätte varmaan, jos ilmaisen, että täytyypi mennä ostamaan lisää noita lankoja eli kokeilu jatkuu. Tosin täytyisi varmaan tehdä se Mysteerihuivi #13 ensin loppuun ja ehkä se jämälankapeittokin. Tai jotain. :D



I took my mother to the nearest “city” and during that trip we also visited one market called Löytötex. I have been wondering whether Novita’s new yarn called Puro would be nice as a blanket and since there were Puro available I had to buy some. I bought colors called Iltanuotio, Kanervikko and Ruska – one skein of each. Tundra color seemed to be a bit too dark as a blanket though I like those colors in general. On the other hand Revontulet color seemed to be even too colorful and bright for this purpose. I think they did not have Jäätynyt Karpalo color at all.

Though I have other WIPs I had to try a bit and used Attic24’s Hexagon How-to as a guideline. Though the quality of the picture is quite poor I hope you understand why I am going to buy some more yarn for this. I will continue with this experiment. However, I think I should finish Mystery Shawl #13 and Leftover Blanket first. Or perhaps… :D
