Sukkia jouluksi 3 / Socks for Christmas 3

Kyseessä on miesten sukat kokoa 43-44.

Fitz 01

I am a bit behind with these blog-posts, but here is the socks number 3. These are made for a man whose shoe size is about 43-44. I used Novita’s 7-veljestä yarn, but since I was not sure whether I have enough I used two different colours – mixing grey and blue by knitting one row with grey and then another with blue.

Fitz 02
Lanka/Yarn: Novita 7-veljestä
Väri/Color: Harmaa ja sininen / Grey and blue
Määrä/Amount: 87 g (174.0 m / 190.2 yards) and 45 g (90.0 m / 98.4 yards)
Puikot/Needles: 3.5 mm / US 4

Sukissa käytetty kuvio on otettu Ilona Korhosen ja Jenni Östermanin Neulekirjasta. Tarkkaan ottaen kyseessä on Fitz-sukat (Ravelry-linkki). Tosin ohjeen mukaiset sukat on tehty ylhäältä alas - minä tein nämä alhaalta ylös eli ohjeesta käytin vain tuon kuvion.

I used the pattern from Ilona Korhonen’s & Jenni Österman’s Neulekirja –book. To be more specific; I used the pattern from Fitz-socks (Ravelry-link). The socks in the book are made top-down; since I made my socks toe-up I copied only the pattern.

Shedir

Shedir 04

One of my Ravelry friends needed a chemo-cap; not for herself but for one of her close ones. She did not want to knit that cap by herself, which is quite understandable in that situation. I promised to knit it and I made Jenna Wilson’s Shedir.

Shedir 02

In this case it sounds a bit strange to say I liked to knit this hat. I have knitted only 5 hats for Tampere University Hospital before this and those all were Angela Hahn’s Beaufort-hats. Shedir has lot of small cables; it was totally different kind of knitting for me - especially since I have not used lot of cables in my previous projects.

Shedir 01
Lanka/Yarn: teetee Primavera
Väri/Color: Lila / Lilac
Määrä/Amount: 64 g (146.3 m / 160 yards)
Puikot/Needles: 3.25 mm / US 3

Kaksi viimeistä kuvaa on tosi tummia, mutta niissä langan väri on lähinnä oikeaa. The last two pictures are really dark, but the yarn color is closest to correct one.

Sukkia jouluksi 2 / Socks for Christmas 2

No, nyt sitten valmistui toinen pari.

Socks for AV

OK, now I have finished the second pair of socks. I used the Silmäpakosäärystimet –pattern from Ulla as a basis. There are some differences though; these legwarmers are made from top-down and the recommended yarn is actually cotton. I made the socks from toe-up using woollen yarn. However, I used e.g. all the stitch-counts explained in the pattern even though I had to use those in reverse order. Since I did not want to get totally confused I created the chart which is above.

As a result I got quite a nice socks in my opinion; by the way the model is approximately 60 years older than the one who will get these socks as a Christmas present. :D

Socks for AV
Lanka/Yarn: Novita Nalle Solids
Väri/Color: Black
Määrä/Amount: 156 g (406.1 m / 444.1 yards)
Puikot/Needles: 3.0 mm / US 2½

Sukkia jouluksi 1 / Socks for Christmas 1

Kyseessä on naisten kärjestä aloitetut sukat kokoa 41. Aloituksessa käytin Turkish Cast-On -metodia. Ja tein lisäykset sivulle nauhana. Kuviona käytin Cookie A:n Suloisimmat Sukat -kirjasta löytyvää mallia; minulla se kirja on englanninkielisenä, mutta eiköhän se ohje suomenkielisestäkin versiosta löydy. Kuvion on tosin ylösalaisin, koska Cookie A. aloittaa sukkansa varresta.

Socks for KV
Lanka/Yarn: Zen Yarn Garden Superwash Sock Yarn
Väri/Color: Athena
Määrä/Amount: 100 g (393.2 m / 430 yards)
Puikot/Needles: 2.5 mm / US 1½

Usually I do not give any knitted things as a Christmas presents to anyone. I don’t know why; it is just not my habit. However, some time ago I started to think whether I should take grandmother’s role this year. At least in my family our grandmother was the one who knitted socks for everybody. Unfortunately she passed away long time ago and my mother did not take this role; if we think about sock knitting or knitting in general.

So, I should knit 4 pairs of socks for this Christmas and here is the first pair. These are women’s toe-up socks in European 41 size. I used Turkish Cast-On and then I made the increases in both sides. I used the pattern from Cookie A’s Sock Innovation –book, but since she starts the socks from cuff the pattern is upside down in the socks I made. I thought I knit as long leg & cuff as possible using all the yarn I have. I made some increases in the upper part of the leg; now it should not be too tight. Since I had enough yarn I made quite a long folded cuff; I did not have enough yarn for knee socks though.

By the way, I have to tell you the shawl has been ready for couple of weeks already, but I should block it... That seems to be a mission impossible every now and then. :D

Muokattu / Modified Peasy

Tailored Sweater Rose 01

In Dreams –shawl is progressing, but during my vacation it has been every now and then a little bit in the background, since I knitted a cardigan for my mother. She had a cotton sweater made around the 80’s and she did not like that sweater at all. It was totally shapeless and far too big and after 2 hours usage it was even bigger. It looked like a warm winter sweater, but actually it was not.

I proposed we could rip it and I could knit something else using that recycled yarn even though you might see from the end result the yarn is old and used.

Päädyimme Heidi Kirrmaierin suunnittelemaan Peasy-takkiin (rav-link), mutta matkan varrella tuli tehtyä muutamia muokkauksia:
  1. Pitsipaneeli on matalampi, jotta takkia voi pitää puserona ilman aluspaitaa, eikä silti näy mitään sopimatonta.
  2. Tein vartalo-osan ensin
  3. Tein rintamuotoiluja (lyhennetyt kerrokset)
  6. Laitoimme napit koko matkalle ylhäältä alas. Alkuperäisessä ohjeessa on napit vain pitsiosion kohdalla ylhäällä.
  7. Tein nappilistoista leveämmät kuin alkuperäisessä mallissa, koska mielestäni napin pitää mahtua listalle.
Tässä oli pääosin tekemäni muutokset.

Pahoittelen, mutta sattuneesta syystä päätön kuva. :D Halusin kuitenkin jakaa tämänkin, kun yleensä mallit näkee nuorien ihmisten päällä, tästä saa hieman osviittaa, miltä Peasy-takki näyttää reilusti päälle 70-vuotiaan päällä.

Peasy 01

We selected Heidi Kirrmaier’s Peasy cardigan (rav-link), but during the knitting I made some modifications:
  1. I made a shorter lace panel, then my mother can use this as a blouse without showing anything inappropriate if she does not have undershirt.
  2. I knitted body before sleeves.
  3. I made some bust shaping using sort rows.
  4. I made a bit different waist shaping; it includes both decreases and increases instead of increasing only couple of stitches.
  5. I made short sleeves with even decreases instead of straight ¾ sleeves with decreases only in the end.
  6. Instead of having buttons only in the top near the lace panel we inserted buttons all way down.
  7. I made wider edge trims since I thing the buttons should fit on top of trim.
I think those were the main changes I made.

I apologize sharing a picture without the head, but I do not want to share the picture of my mom in public. However, I thought it is useful anyway, usually you see quite young people modelling the designs; this time you can see how Peasy fits to a lady who is clearly above 70 years.

In Dreams, Clue 5

In Dreams Clue 5

Just a quick posting; just wanted to share the information I am still knitting this shawl and it is progressing. :D

In Dreams, Clue 1

Huivin suunnittelija on minulle uusi tuttavuus, Susan Pandorf eli Sunflower Designs. Huivin teema liittyy Taruun Sormusten Herrasta.

Lankana minulla on WM Lace, Fliederbusch

WM Lace Fliederbusch

I will use the WM Lace, Fliederbusch.

I saw a picture of this shawl in one of the Ravely’s threads and I liked the result a lot. This is a bit different Mystery Shawl KAL, since it was possible to join in later phase as well. I joined couple of days ago and all the clues have been already published and some of the members have finished their shawls already.

The shape of this shawl is half circle and it contains a lot of beads and inserts are not in line. Since I use my shawls at the office I decided NOT to insert beads, since I think the shawl with beads is not totally appropriate for everyday use. However, I still have to mention; in this shawl you should add the beads during the wrong side rows and at least in the first clue there were A LOT of those.

I have not seen this designer’s works earlier; though it seems she has several designs already. Her name is Susan Pandorf from Sunflower Designs. The theme of the shawl is related to Lord of the Rings.
